Thank you for expressing an interest in Pickering Manor Home's Cottage Plan.
Our facility was established in 1963 and is operated as a non-profit nursing home by the Community Welfare Council of Newtown, Inc. It includes a 47-bed nursing unit, a 22-room Personal Care area, 10 cottage units, and 24 apartments.
Those fortunate enough to be in good health and financially independent, who wish to live under the shelter of an organization of professional people trained in the health care field. The cottager is relieved of everyday responsibilities but allowed independence and privacy. It is specifically designed for the person who wishes to maintain his/her furnishings and who can come and go as they please without supervision.
There are two units per cottage. Each unit has a front porch, a living room, kitchenette (including cabinets, refrigerator, electric stove), dining area, bathroom, a bedroom and ample storage space including a walk-in closet. Each has an electric water heater, central air-conditioning, and hot-air heat. Storm windows and screens are provided. There are driveways, parking areas, and walkways connecting the cottages to each other and to the Home.
After the first year, the Cottager has a guaranteed option to renew the lease for a period of one year, and each year thereafter, up through the fifth year according to the fee schedule. (To receive a fee schedule and a color brochure,
e-mail us: info@pickeringmanor.org) During years 2 through 5, the yearly fee must be paid on the first day of the lease agreement and no refunds will be available.
In addition to the yearly lease payments, there is a monthly service fee to cover the cost of utilities and maintenance. This fee includes electricity, heat, air-conditioning, water, sewer, garbage removal, building and grounds maintenance. Telephone service is not included. At this time, the fee is based on the Monthly Rent Schedule which can be mailed to you anytime and is subject to change as needed to keep pace with increased utility costs. However, this fee cannot be increased more than once a year.
At the end of the fifth year, the Cottager will have no further payments due other than the monthly service fee. A washer and dryer can be placed in the Cottage. There is also the option of having your meals in the Personal Care dining room.
In the event of an acute illness and the subsequent need for nursing care, the first-available bed will be available in our skilled nursing facility at the current per diem rate. Any nursing service needed in your cottage will be charged at our current rate.
Each cottage is equipped with a wireless response system. The resident has the option of purchasing a pendant which when activated will alert a 24hr monitoring system. Newtown Emergency response will be dispatched at once.
